Applus+, through its company Applus+ Energy S.L., has carried out as an ESCO company several improvements to the thermal energy generation and distribution systems of the pharmaceutical company Uriach, specifically in its Palau Solità i Plegamans company, Barcelona.
On the one hand, the production and distribution of hot water has been optimized through the installation of a new condensing boiler, which allows for instantaneous yields greater than 100% by exploiting the latent heat of combustion fumes in the form of water vapor. In addition, an electronically regulated burner has been incorporated, with variable frequency and probe control. The distribution of hot water has also been improved with hydraulic disconnection using a distribution manifold, separating the primary and secondary circuits. In addition, variable frequency drives have been installed to adjust the operation of the pumps in the secondary and tertiary circuits according to the needs of the moment, and two-way valves have been configured in all consumers, allowing the flow to decrease as the number of active consumers decreases.
On the other hand, in the distribution of cold water, variable frequency drives have been implemented to adjust the operation of the pumps in the secondary and tertiary circuits according to the needs of the moment. Two-way valves have also been configured on all consumers, allowing flow to decrease as the number of active consumers decreases. In addition, hydraulic disconnection has been carried out using a distribution manifold, separating the primary and secondary circuits.
Thus, the total savings achieved in air conditioning in Uriach are 13% in electricity consumption and 28% in gas consumption.
To carry out this energy efficiency improvement project, APPLUS ENERGY SL has invested €419,955.79. Thanks to the energy savings achieved, APPLUS ENERGY SL has received a grant of 115,955.79€ from the National Energy Efficiency Fund. This line of grants, which is coordinated by the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) and managed by the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN), is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) with the objective of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable economy.
